Halo Terms of Service

Effective date: 2026-05-28 Last updated: 2026-05-28

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Halo regarding your use of the Halo iOS app, Android app, website at https://usehaloapp.com, and any related services (together, the "Service"). Please read them carefully.

By using Halo, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Important things to know up front

Before we get into the long version, the most important things:

  1. Halo is not medical advice. Our scans, scores, observations, and Coach replies are wellness reflections — not medical assessments, diagnoses, or treatment plans. If you have skin concerns that worry you, see a dermatologist.
  2. You must be at least 16 years old to use Halo.
  3. Halo uses AI to analyze a photo of your face. By using the scan feature, you consent to this processing (described in detail in our Privacy Policy).
  4. If you start a paid subscription, it auto-renews unless you cancel. Cancel anytime in your device's Settings.
  5. Disputes are resolved through arbitration, not class actions, except as required by law (see Section 14).

If you read nothing else, read the medical disclaimer (Section 9) and the subscription terms (Section 6).

2. Who can use Halo

You may use Halo if:

  • You are at least 16 years old (or the higher age of majority in your jurisdiction).
  • You can form a legally binding contract under the law of your country and state.
  • You are not on any U.S. or other government-imposed sanctions list, and you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo.
  • You have not been previously banned from the Service.

If you are using Halo on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Children: Halo's minimum age is 16. The App Store and Play Store rating shown on the listing may differ — those are platform-assigned content ratings based on app features (AI chat, third-party content), not our minimum-age requirement. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. See our Privacy Policy for details.

3. Your account

3.1 Creating an account

You can create a Halo account using:

  • Sign in with Apple
  • Sign in with Google
  • Email + one-time code

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact us immediately at [email protected].

3.2 Account responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information during onboarding (your name, gender, climate, etc.)
  • Use Halo only for personal, non-commercial purposes
  • Not share your account credentials with anyone else
  • Notify us promptly if you suspect any security breach involving your account

3.3 Account deletion

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time:

Settings → Account actions → Delete account

Deletion is permanent and immediate. It removes your profile, scans, photos, routines, progress timeline, subscription state, achievements, and coach messages. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

If you delete your account during an active paid subscription, the subscription continues until the end of the current billing period (Apple and Google do not refund unused portions on cancellation through account deletion — see Section 6.4).

4. License to use Halo

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Halo app on devices you own or control, solely for your own personal use.

This license is not a sale of the app or any part of it. We retain all rights, title, and interest in the Service.

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app (except to the extent permitted by law)
  • Resell, sublicense, or distribute the app
  • Use the Service to build a competing product
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service
  • Bypass any access controls, rate limits, or paywalls
  • Use the Service to violate any law or infringe anyone's rights

5. Your content

5.1 Your selfies and inputs

When you take a scan, you provide us with a photo of your face. When you complete onboarding or chat with the Coach, you provide us with information about your skin, lifestyle, and questions.

You retain all ownership rights to your photos and other content you submit. You grant us a limited license to process this content solely to deliver the Service to you — that is, to run the AI analysis, generate your scores and routine, and let you see your progress over time. This license terminates when you delete your account, and your data is deleted with it.

We will not:

  • Display your photos to anyone other than you
  • Sell or license your content to third parties
  • Use your content to train AI models that benefit other users
  • Combine your content with publicly-available facial datasets

Full details are in our Privacy Policy, Section 5.

5.2 You confirm you have the right to upload

By taking a scan, you confirm that the photo is of yourself (you do not use Halo to upload photos of other people without their explicit consent). If we have reason to believe a photo is not of the account holder, we may delete it and suspend the account.

5.3 Coach messages

The Halo Coach generates responses using a large language model. The responses are general wellness guidance, not medical advice (see Section 9). If a Coach response is offensive, harmful, or inappropriate, you can report it via the in-app report feature, and we will review.

6. Subscriptions

6.0 California Subscription Summary

For California residents: This is a recurring subscription. Halo does not offer a free trial — your selected plan is charged at the time of purchase and renews automatically at the price and frequency shown at sign-up until you cancel. Cancel anytime via your Apple Account or Google Play account settings. To request a refund, contact Apple or Google, respectively.

6.1 Plans

Halo offers two subscription plans. Each is charged in full at the time of purchase — there is no free trial and no introductory period. Prices below are exclusive of any applicable VAT/GST collected by Apple or Google at point of sale.

PlanPriceChargedBilling frequency
Weekly$9.99At purchaseEvery 7 days
Annual$69.99At purchaseEvery 12 months

Your subscription auto-renews at the price listed until you cancel. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple Account or Google Play account settings.

Promotional offer (annual). From time to time we may offer a limited-time discount on the Annual plan to users who have not yet subscribed (currently: 20% off the first year, taking the annual price from $69.99 to $55.99). The discount applies only to the first year; subsequent renewals revert to the standard price. Eligibility, duration, and amount of any promotional offer are at Halo's discretion.

6.2 Auto-Renewal Acknowledgement

By starting a subscription you acknowledge:

  • Your selected plan is charged in full at the time of purchase. There

is no free trial and no introductory period

  • Your subscription then renews automatically at the price listed for

your plan until you cancel

  • You may cancel at any time via your Apple Account or Google Play

account settings

  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period —

you retain access until then

  • You will not be refunded for any portion of a billing period already

charged, unless required by applicable law

6.3 Auto-renewal

Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) until you cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period — you retain access until then.

6.4 Cancellation and refunds

  • You can cancel anytime through your device's Settings (Apple Subscriptions or Google Play Subscriptions). Cancellation stops auto-renewal but does not automatically refund any amount paid for the current period.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not by Halo directly. We cannot issue refunds for purchases made through the App Store or Google Play.
  • For Apple users: request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • For Google Play users: request a refund through Google Play Support.
  • In some jurisdictions (notably the EU/UK), you may have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of purchase and receive a refund. By starting your subscription or trial, you expressly request that we begin providing the Service before the 14-day period expires, and you acknowledge that you waive the right to a refund for any portion of the Service consumed before cancellation.

6.5 Price changes

If we change the price of a subscription plan, we will notify you in advance and ask for your express consent to the new price before charging you. If you do not consent, your subscription will not renew at the new price.

6.6 Restore purchases

If you reinstall the app or switch devices, you can restore your subscription via Settings → Restore Purchases. This re-syncs your subscription state from Apple or Google.

7. Intellectual property

7.1 Our intellectual property

The Halo name, logo, brand mark (the "halo" sigil), app design, code, copy, and all other intellectual property in the Service are owned by Halo or our licensors. You may not use these without our prior written permission.

7.2 Your intellectual property

You retain all rights to your selfies, your onboarding answers, your Coach messages, and any other content you submit. We do not claim ownership.

7.3 Feedback

If you send us feedback, suggestions, or ideas about Halo, you agree that we may use them without any obligation to compensate or credit you. This is not a license to your selfies or personal content — it applies only to product feedback (e.g. "the scan feels slow" or "you should add Y feature").

8. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use Halo to harass, threaten, or impersonate any person
  • Upload photos that are not of yourself, or that depict illegal activity, nudity outside the face, or any content that violates third-party rights
  • Attempt to defeat or work around any security measure or access control
  • Use Halo to develop or improve any competing product, including any product that uses AI for facial or skin analysis
  • Use Halo in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the Service
  • Use Halo to spam, distribute malware, or violate any law

If we believe you are violating these terms, we may suspend or terminate your account without notice.

9. Medical disclaimer — important

Halo is not a medical device or a medical service. Specifically:

  • The scan analysis, scores, and "visual age reading" are estimates produced by an AI model, not medical assessments. They are not diagnoses.
  • Recommendations (ingredients, routines) are general wellness guidance, not prescriptions. They may not be appropriate for your specific skin condition.
  • The Coach is an AI assistant, not a dermatologist. It cannot diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, or replace professional medical advice.
  • The "Skin sensitivity" answer you provided affects what ingredients we suggest, but Halo does not know your full medical history, including allergies, prescriptions, pregnancy, or any other condition that could affect what is safe for your skin.

If you have any of the following, see a dermatologist or qualified medical professional — not Halo:

  • Persistent acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, or other diagnosed skin conditions
  • Sudden changes in moles, growths, or skin appearance
  • Skin that is bleeding, painful, or oozing
  • Severe redness, swelling, or allergic reactions
  • Any symptom that worries you

Before starting any new skincare product or ingredient, especially actives like retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, vitamin C, or benzoyl peroxide: patch-test, introduce gradually, and consult a dermatologist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on prescription topicals, or have known sensitivities.

Halo is not a substitute for professional medical care. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

By using Halo, you acknowledge that you understand these disclaimers and agree to seek professional medical advice for any condition that warrants it.

10. Service availability

We do our best to keep Halo available 24/7, but:

  • The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, upgrades, or infrastructure issues.
  • The Service may be modified, suspended, or discontinued (in whole or in part) at any time, with reasonable notice for material changes.
  • The Service depends on third-party providers (Apple, Google, Supabase, OpenAI). Outages or changes at these providers can affect availability.

We are not liable for any inconvenience or loss resulting from temporary unavailability.

11. Disclaimers (the legal heavy version)

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR COURSE OF PERFORMANCE.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE
  • THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM USING THE SERVICE WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE
  • THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR EXPECTATIONS
  • ANY ERRORS IN THE SERVICE WILL BE CORRECTED

YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION LIMITS WARRANTIES THAT CANNOT BE LAWFULLY DISCLAIMED IN YOUR JURISDICTION.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL HALO, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY:

  • INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES
  • LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES

ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF:

  • THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR
  • ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100)

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW (E.G. LIABILITY FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE, WILLFUL MISCONDUCT, OR FRAUD).

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Halo and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any law or third-party right
  • Content you upload or submit
  • Your use of the Service in a manner not authorized by these Terms

We will give you prompt notice of any such claim and reasonably cooperate with your defense.

14. Dispute resolution

14.1 Informal resolution first

If you have a dispute with us, please contact [email protected] first. We will try to resolve it informally within 60 days.

14.2 Binding arbitration

If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its consumer arbitration rules.

The arbitration will be conducted in Milan, Italy or via video conference or, at your request, via video conference. The arbitrator's decision will be final and binding, and judgment may be entered on the award in any court of competent jurisdiction.

14.3 Class action waiver

YOU AND HALO AGREE TO RESOLVE DISPUTES INDIVIDUALLY AND WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION, COLLECTIVE ACTION, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING.

14.4 Opt-out

You may opt out of the arbitration and class-action waiver by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Include "Arbitration Opt-Out" in the subject line and your full name and email address in the body.

14.5 Exceptions

The arbitration requirement does not apply to:

  • Small-claims court actions (where applicable in your jurisdiction)
  • Injunctive or equitable relief for intellectual property infringement
  • Actions to enforce or challenge an arbitration award

14.6 EU / UK consumers

If you reside in the EU or UK, the arbitration and class-action waiver above may not apply to you to the extent prohibited by your country's consumer protection laws. You retain the right to bring a claim in the courts of your country of residence.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

If you are an EU/UK consumer, the laws of your country of residence apply to the extent they grant you mandatory protections that the laws of Italy do not.

16. Apple-specific terms

If you use Halo on iOS:

  • These Terms are between you and Halo, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the Service.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the Service.
  • You agree that Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
  • If the Service fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  • Halo is responsible for addressing any product liability or non-conformity claim, not Apple.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo or designated as a "terrorist-supporting" country, and you are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

17. Google Play-specific terms

If you use Halo on Android via Google Play:

  • These Terms are between you and Halo, not Google. Google is not responsible for the Service.
  • You acknowledge that Google does not endorse the Service.
  • Refunds for Google Play purchases are subject to Google's policies.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do:

  • We will update the "Last updated" date at the top.
  • For material changes, we will notify you in-app at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
  • Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
  • If you do not agree to a material change, you may delete your account before the effective date.

19. Miscellaneous

19.1 Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Halo regarding the Service.

19.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

19.3 No waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision in these Terms is not a waiver of that right or provision.

19.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms freely, including in connection with a sale, merger, or other change of control.

19.5 Force majeure

We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, riots, government action, network failures, or labor disputes.

19.6 No third-party beneficiaries

These Terms do not create rights for any third party except as expressly stated (e.g. Apple as a third-party beneficiary under Section 16).
